Day 10

Un día de diversión!!

We started the day off early… what else is new. We then had ourselves a light breakfast and quickly headed to Lake Atitlan to the docks. Our friend Maggie followed us most of the way there and waved as we left on our boat heading across the lake.

The lake was beautiful and along our 45 minute boat ride we got to see the extravagant homes of the wealthy in Guatemala. It was the best view of San Lucas Toliman and the volcanoes we had seen yet. Once we arrived to the other side of the lake in San Antonio we stopped for some shopping, primarily at the ceramic shops where all of the hand crafted pottery is made. Many of us got some samples to bring home!

We then headed off to the zip lining facility, Cables X-tremos in Panajachel via our favorite transportation of the tuk-tuks. It was a long hike up the mountain where we get the chance to see spider monkeys and some strange lemur like raccoons indigenous to Guatemala. Once at the top we took a series of zip lines down the mountain, one of which was a half mile in distance which only took 70 seconds to travel across. We saw some amazing views of the water and the elevated view of the vast terrain.

This is the start of one of the zip-lines.... amazing view!

Once back at the bottom we headed back to Panajachel to get some snacks for lunch. It began pouring rain, but that didn’t stop us from doing more shopping at the many shops in the center of town. Due to the rain and wind, we had to hurry back to the boat and made a very bumpy and exciting trip back to San Lucas, ending with most of us being drenched.
We then went out to dinner at the fancy Hotel Toliman where we invited our friends from the mission, Mario and Miguel, who are both from Guatemala. It was only the second time Miguel had ever been there and we gathered up all of our leftovers and gave it to them for their families.  After our long exhausting fun day we headed back to the hotel for some much needed rest.

It’s been real,
