We kicked off our 2015 trip with an early start at BDL. The group was quite alert despite the 4:45 am gathering, so Dr. Northrup and I will be considering changing our courses for the Fall semester to start around the same time. The first leg of our journey was a flight to Miami, and the long layover there allowed us to explore the airport a bit.
Our flight to Guatemala City was smooth as well; we touched down around 2:00 pm local time. Our hosts were there to greet us and get our bags loaded into the bus for transport to Xela. That 4-ish hour ride brought us to our hotel just before 7:00 pm, meaning we had been traveling for roughly 14 hours total. Needless to say, the group was pretty wiped out despite the small naps we had slipped in throughout the day. So after dinner, the group was ready to call it a day.
