Our Guatemala adventure began (for most of us) at 11pm Monday evening when we met on campus and loaded onto our shuttle bus. About two hours later, we rolled into Boston/Logan airport, where we met up with the rest of our team. Cue scenes of students and faculty napping in the airport off and on for the next several hours. After our first flight to Atlanta, we embarked to Guatemala City, arriving just after noon local time. We were welcomed at the airport by our host Rosa, our translator Jose, and driver Samuel.
It is about a 4 hour drive from Guatemala City to Xela, so we broke up the ride by stopping for a delicious lunch at San Martin Cafe.
We arrived at our hotel in Xela just after 7pm. Tired, but eager to get started on our work in the hospitals beginning tomorrow morning.
